Privacy Policy
Your words stay on your iPhone.
Last updated 20 October 2026
The short version: Candle stores your dedications and history on your iPhone and does not send them to us. The app has no sign-in or developer-run analytics. Apple handles purchases, and device backups may include app data. This website uses separate visit statistics, described below.
The rest of this page explains that in detail, because a claim like that is worth checking.
Who this is
Candle is made by Lukas Gergel, Mestecko 137, 696 15 Cejkovice, Czech Republic. In this policy "we" and "us" mean that one person, and "the app" means the Candle iPhone app and its home screen widget.
What the app collects
Candle has no account system or sign-in. Your dedications, candle history and selected photo are stored locally rather than sent to a developer-run server. Apple’s StoreKit handles optional purchases and subscription status.
We do not receive your dedications, candle history, selected photos, contacts, location or advertising identifier through the app. Apple’s App Store services and any device backups you enable are separate from this local app storage, as described below.
The app does not embed third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or attribution SDKs. It uses Apple frameworks for features such as purchases and local notifications.
What you write
When you light a candle you may write what you are lighting it for. That text, and the record of the candles you have lit, is stored in the app's own storage area on your iPhone, shared only between the app and its widget so that both can draw the same candle.
Two deliberate choices protect it further. It never appears in a notification, because a notification would render it on your Lock Screen where anyone holding your phone could read it. It never travels inside a link, because links are written to system logs. It stays in one place.
If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the backup may include app data depending on your settings. Those backups are handled by Apple or by your own computer under their terms, not ours. Backup contents and encryption depend on your device, account and backup settings.
Deleting the app removes its local storage. We have no server copy or restore service. An existing iCloud or computer backup may retain app data; recovery depends on your backup and device settings.
Notifications
If you enable the option in Candle and allow notifications in iOS, the app can tell you when a candle has gone out. That is a local notification: it is scheduled by the app on your device and delivered by iOS on your device. No push server is involved and no notification token is registered. The message says only that the flame has died — never what the candle was lit for.
What Apple sees
Apple provides App Store download and purchase statistics. Usage and diagnostic analytics depend on users’ sharing settings and may include crash reports. These services are governed by Apple’s policies; Candle does not send your dedications or history to us.
Downloading and paying for apps is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account.
This website
This site, candle.pykaso.net, uses simple visit statistics that we run ourselves, on our own server at stats.pykaso.net. The script that does it is loaded from that address rather than from this site, but it is ours: no third-party analytics or advertising services are involved, and no cookies are set.
For each page view or link click, the statistics record the time, the full address of the page (including any query string), which link was clicked, the address of the page you came from, the campaign source, medium and name if the link you followed carried them, and your browser type (user agent). They also keep a random visitor identifier in your browser's local storage, so that repeat visits can be counted, and any campaign details in session storage until you close the tab. Your IP address is not stored; only a salted hash of it is.
We use this only to see how many people visit and which links are used. It is not sold or shared, and it is not combined with anything from the app, which sends nothing. You can remove the identifier and the campaign details at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
The company hosting these files may keep standard server logs — the requested address, a timestamp, and the IP address the request came from — as every web server does, for security and to keep the site running. We do not use those logs to build any profile of you.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and under 16 where local law sets that threshold. We do not receive children’s dedications or history through the app.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, the CCPA and similar laws you have the right to know what personal data an organization holds about you, to obtain a copy, to correct it, to have it erased, and to object to its sale. Through the app we hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing to disclose, copy, correct, erase or object to. What the website keeps is described under "This website" above. We do not receive, sell or share your dedications or history through the app. Nothing the website records is sold or shared either.
The data on your device is already entirely under your control: you can read it in the app, and delete all of it by deleting the app. If you would like this confirmed in writing, write to us and we will confirm it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page and the date at the top will be updated. Any change that would mean the app or this website starts collecting something more will be described plainly here and in the App Store listing before it takes effect — not softened into wording that technically covers it.
